Ken Bland Jr. and Tony Smith win in Germany Print E-mail
Tony Smith and Ken Bland jr. won all five matches in the round robin finals to cruise to victory in the 7th Edgar Ullrich Memorial at Bowling in Viernheim, Germany.

The Team Dyno-Thane/U.S. duo averaged 239,7 over five games. Smith shot the highest series of 1216 and Bland added 1181 to earn the 770 Euro top prize. The 68 doubles participating in the event rolled six games of qualifying to cut to the top 16 teams. Former PBA pro Peter Knopp set the pace with 1511 (avg.251.83) including games of 279 and 289. Those 16 duos bowled another three games with pinfall carried forward. Smith shot the field-best 757-series to secure the 6th and final spot for round robin for the eventual winners. The six doubles started at scratch and the Americans were unstoppable. Michael Herweck/Holger Friedmann went 2-3 but averaged 225,4 to finish second, 203 pins behind the winners. Uwe G?tz/Robert Rempel, who led the field before round robin ended up third. Rempel was the best individual player with a 241.07 average for 14 games, slightly better than Smith in second position with 240.14. Rounding out the top six were 4. Uwe Slama/Ralf Schlingensief 5. Daniel Janocha/Enrique Gonzalez and 6. Peter and Nicole Knopp.

Tony Smith blazed the left side of the lanes using the Element, while Ken Bland rocked the right with the Vendetta Black Solid. Great Bowling Guys!
